To reduce operational costs and modernize critical infrastructure, the University of Georgia engaged CMTA to identify and implement energy conservation measures across five campus facilities: Aderhold Hall, Baldwin Hall, the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, the Main Library Annex, and the Performing Arts Building. Funded entirely through operational savings, this comprehensive infrastructure modernization effort spans 856,920 square feet and is guaranteed to deliver $1,255,407 in annual savings.
The project’s primary goals were to replace pneumatic HVAC controls that were beyond their useful life, replace a large end of life central air handling system, and upgrade critical research infrastructure at the complex Carbohydrate Research Center. Across all five facilities, CMTA is replacing pneumatic HVAC controls with new Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. Additional improvements include 694 VAV terminal units, 4 new fan arrays, and 14 variable air volume (VAV) air handling system improvements at Aderhold Hall, Baldwin Hall, and the Main Library Annex.
At the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, CMTA is replacing 29 constant-flow fume hoods with high-performance units and providing recertification services. The project also includes hot water plant upgrades at Aderhold Hall, Baldwin Hall, and the Main Library Annex, featuring new steam-to-heating hot water heat exchangers, variable speed pump upgrades, and steam metering.
By combining critical infrastructure upgrades with energy-saving improvements, this project delivers a fully funded, guaranteed path to enhanced facility performance, long-term operational efficiency, and reduced utility costs.
