Beck Barn Activation Project

Purdue Research FoundationWest Lafayette, Indiana

In 2023, the Beck family, renowned leaders in the agriculture industry, generously donated a century-old barn to the Purdue Research Foundation to support the vision of the Discovery Park District—a 400-acre mixed-use development. Originally constructed in the 1920s, the barn was carefully dismantled and reconstructed into a modern hospitality venue. This revitalized space pays homage to Indiana’s rich agricultural heritage while showcasing Purdue University and the Discovery Park District’s forward-thinking innovation.

Strategically located along the District Boulevard Axis, the revitalized barn has been reimagined as both a historical landmark and a modern centerpiece. It now features a blend of retail offerings, event venues, and a restaurant.

CMTA designed and integrated the facility’s MEP systems to support the barn’s flexible event, kitchen, and dining spaces. Multiple outdoor air handling units and zoned controls maximize comfort and operational efficiency, while all systems were thoughtfully designed to complement the rustic-modern character of the structure. Radiant heat enhances the outdoor dining areas, and natural gas instantaneous water heaters supply domestic hot water discreetly throughout the venue. Inside and out, advanced lighting and electrical solutions highlight the barn’s heritage and extend into the surrounding park, ensuring the space is functional, welcoming, and true to its legacy.
