Hector International Airport

CMTA has proudly partnered with Hector International Airport for nearly 30 years, supporting projects ranging from terminal renovations and indoor air quality improvements to central utility and infrastructure upgrades. Building on this longstanding relationship, CMTA provided MEP and fire protection engineering services for the airport’s transformational terminal expansion and renovation project.

Originally constructed in 1986, the terminal required significant modernization to accommodate growing passenger volumes and evolving operational needs. The multi-phase project includes a 73,000 SF terminal expansion and a 113,000 SF renovation of the existing facility, increasing capacity from five gates to nine while enhancing passenger flow, security operations, and overall functionality.

A key challenge involved integrating new building systems with the existing terminal while maintaining continuity between the expansion and renovated spaces. Because the facilities function as a connected campus rather than independent buildings, extensive coordination was required to align electrical distribution, mechanical systems, life safety infrastructure, and utility services across both new and existing construction. The project team carefully phased and interconnected systems to support ongoing airport operations while providing a seamless transition between facilities. When the project is completed, the entire building will be served by a new mechanical system, additional electrical service, and a new generator.

The expansion delivers additional gates, expanded departure lounges, and modern passenger amenities, while the ongoing terminal renovation includes ticketing/check-in areas, baggage claim improvements, and overall operational efficiency upgrades. Together, these enhancements position Hector International Airport to serve future passenger demand with greater efficiency, reliability, safety, and traveler comfort.
