Henry County Schools Phase 1-3
Tennessee School System Uses ESSER Funds for Energy Upgrades
Performance Contracting
This performance contracting project involves renovations for 9 facilities throughout 2 phases.
Phase 1 includes a full geothermal HVAC and controls renovation at the 29,000 square foot Heritage Park High School. The HVAC system utilizes geothermal water source heat pumps and water-to-water variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems. These HVAC systems will be supplied by a new vertical wellfield made up of 18 wells and will integrate with the existing wellfield currently serving the facility. Additionally, a 25 kW emergency backup generator will be connected to the facility.
Controls upgrades will be performed at the following facilities, covering 1,300,000 square feet to improve building performance and to monitor, diagnose, and troubleshoot HVAC systems:
Additional improvements include lighting efficiency upgrades for over 1,590 fixtures at Daviess County High School and electric rate change optimization, which will save the school over $43,000 annually. To partially offset the buildings’ power loads, over 207 kW of solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays will be installed at Apollo High School and Tamarack Elementary School.
Phase 2 includes renovations for Southern Oaks Elementary School and the Central Office Building, focusing on geothermal and HVAC system upgrades. The project involves installing a new geothermal vertical wellfield with 60 wells, connected via circuit and integrated with the existing wellfield piping, along with new geothermal hydronic piping for the Central Office Building.
At Southern Oaks Elementary, the HVAC system will be upgraded with modern high-efficiency equipment to meet current ventilation and energy efficiency standards, including new water source heat pumps, hydronic pumping equipment, and a water source variable refrigerant volume system. New HVAC and hydronic pumping equipment will be implemented for the Central Office, and both facilities will receive a new Reliable Controls front-end system for improved functionality.
