Community Health Westfield Hospital

Community Health NetworkWestfield, IN

Community Health Network’s new Westfield Hospital is a state-of-the-art, full-service acute care facility designed to serve as a key healthcare resource for the surrounding community. When fully operational, this adaptive reuse of an existing commercial office building will provide the community with a 200-bed hospital featuring 11 advanced operating rooms, comprehensive radiology services, an ICU, Maternity services, Emergency Room, and various other critical care units to provide holistic and high-quality healthcare services. Partnering with Guidon, CMTA provided MEP engineering, technology, and acoustic design services for this 350,000 SF project.

The hospital utilizes magnetic bearing chillers to produce chilled water, condensing hot water boilers supply heat with optimal efficiency. Dedicated Outside Air Units precondition the outside to reduce the building load. Steam required for sterilization is generated directly by the sterilization equipment, and adiabatic humidifiers were employed to provide building humidification, further reducing energy consumption and increasing the electrification of the building.

CMTA’s acoustic design services encompassed a comprehensive range of solutions, including architectural guidance for wall and floor-ceiling design and calculations, footfall impact and vibration assessments, and building engineering systems analysis for background and exterior-to-interior noise. The design is consistent with the acoustic criteria defined in the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Guidelines for Design and Construction Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities. One of the key challenges involved defining the appropriate construction strategies for critical areas such as the Central Utility Plant (CUP) and mechanical rooms. Additionally, the unique air quality requirements in healthcare environments necessitated noise control measures to minimize particles in the airstream without compromising system performance. These enhancements not only optimize patient comfort but also create an environment conducive to focused, high-quality care.
