Congratulations to CMTA Partner Kevin Sandrella on being named HCD 10’s 2026 Building Professional of the Year! This prestigious award recognizes the leaders and trailblazers in healthcare design who have made a significant impact on the industry. Through data-driven design and technical innovation, Kevin has set new benchmarks for sustainability, safety, and patient-centered design in behavioral health environments.
Kevin’s commitment to delivering practical, evidence-based solutions has not only transformed projects for major national providers such as Acadia Health and UHS but also redefined best practices across the healthcare design landscape. Specifically, his leadership in electrical engineering and systems design has been a driving force in transforming high-acuity environments.
Notably, his approach leverages real-world performance metrics on nearly every building he touches to inform both present and future design decisions, ensuring that facilities are both energy-efficient and conducive to healing. By viewing the patient as the ultimate end-user, he has refined design standards for acoustics and natural light optimization, directly impacting patient outcomes. Integrating technical expertise with a deep understanding of patient needs, Kevin creates facilities that are safer, more therapeutic, and better equipped to support healing and recovery.
With over 500 million SF of healthcare design experience, the CMTA team consistently pushes the boundaries of healthcare design. Kevin’s recognition builds on a growing legacy, following Tom Sorrell’s 2024 HCD 10 Team MVP award for his leadership in the IU Health Academic Adult Hospital Campus project. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated professionals who are leading the industry in building solutions that directly benefit clients and the communities they serve.
