CMTA Energy Solutions Office

Louisville, Kentucky

When the opportunity to expand the Louisville firm became a reality, CMTA utilized their Building Science Leadership expertise by combining skillful Zero Energy engineering and WELL Standards throughout the project.

From the beginning, CMTA designed and built the new two-story, 25,000 square foot, WELL Silver – Targeted office building with environmental and occupant health and wellness in mind. As an early adopter of the Well Standard, CMTA included an approved alternate compliance path for glare reduction, daylight management, and LED lighting with a color temperature of 4000K to support the circadian rhythm of employees. This project was recently certified as WELL Gold, making it the first Zero Energy, WELL certified Building in Kentucky.

The building was also designed to provide ‘real-world’ data for CMTA engineers to easily explain and demonstrate the success of the system design process. CMTA carefully documented the cost of targeted WELL credits to demonstrate how to pursue WELL in high-performance buildings in a cost-effective manner. Because CMTA managed the entire WELL process, staff can easily explain to clients and business partners the many benefits of WELL and how to establish WELL in the most cost-effective manner. The layout of the office makes the building a hands-on learning tool when visitors stop by the office as well. A 108kW roof-mounted photovoltaic system was installed to offset the energy use and make this office a Zero Energy building.

This building is designed to provide ‘real world’ operating data to CMTA engineers. This will enable our engineers to demonstrate the effectiveness of our system design decisions to clients.
